New Year season at the Royal & Derngate

There's a monster new season of shows at Northampton's theatres, ranging from Frankenstein to Swan Lake.

The programming team at the Royal & Derngate pride themselves on presenting something for all tastes. Below are the highlights of the Spring 2008 season.

Swan Lake & The Nutcracker

Derngate: 21 - 26 January
The St Petersburg Ballet Theatre perform two much-loved ballets.

Royal: 1 - 16 February 2008
Patricia Hodge stars in a new comedy involving a doctor, a surgeon and a Brazilian cleaner who is trying to find the perfect joke. It comes to the Royal before touring the country and possibly a run in the West End.

Frankenstein

Royal: 22 February - 15 March
Laurie Sansom promises a new, scary version of Mary Shelley's gothic horror story. He's working with a physical theatre company called Frantic Assembly.

Godspell

A new touring production of the popular musical.

Half a Sixpence

Derngate: 7 - 12 April
Gary Wilmot stars in the musical about Arthur Kipps, an orphaned shop boy who inherits a fortune but learns that money isn't everything.

Humble Boy

Royal: 11 April - 3 May
Northampton-born actress Lesley Joseph (Dorien from Birds of a Feather) stars in this award-winning comedy. She plays a glamorous and indomitable mother with a new lover following the death of her husband.

Simply Ballroom

Derngate: 14 April

Jack Jones

Derngate: 3 May
The legendary crooner opened the Derngate auditorium 25 years ago. He returns for an anniversary gala concert.
