Ensuring Silverstone runs smoothly

Learn more about what it takes behind the scenes to ensure the British Grand Prix runs smoothly.

As the British Grand Prix gets nearer, the Silverstone circuit is preparing for the thousands of fans and team personnel who will descend on South Northamptonshire.

Making sure events on the track run smoothly is something that can get slightly overlooked in all the excitement of the race itself, as it's almost taken for granted that everything will run without a hitch.

Safety is paramount

To ensure the safety of everyone involved is a massive undertaking involving all the Silverstone backroom staff.

BBC Radio Northampton's Stef Notarangelo met up with Pam Dern, whose role it is to manage all the marshals around the track:

On site hospital facilities

Fingers will also be crossed that there are no serious crashes which may injure a driver in testing or during the race.

However, when the unfortunate racing accidents do happen, the circuit has its own hospital right in the middle of the track to take care of any injuries.

Reporter Stef Notarangelo went along to have a look for himself. He spoke to paramedic Peter Barron who discussed the fully-operational hospital at the circuit for all the drivers racing at Silverstone over the weekend:
