BBC RaW's Lara and Max

BBC RaW: Family Story Festival 2007

The BBC RaW Family Story Festival comes to Norfolk in October to host a fantastic free weekend event, packed with fun hands-on story-telling activities for the family.

Max And Lara's Amazing Travelling Space Circus lands in Chapelfield Gardens, Norwich, on Saturday, 6 and Sunday 7, October, 2007 for the BBC RaW Family Festival tour.

The free family event brings to life the wonderful and wacky characters from Max And Lara's world from 10am to 5pm each day.

Max and Lara are orphaned twins who inhabit a magical place, full of weird and wonderful creatures, where anything can happen.

Originally devised by the BBC as characters in a series of books to inspire adults to start reading with their families, they're now fully fledged characters in their own right.

The four story books and accompanying family activity pack will be available to collect at the festival and best of all they're free.

Free festival fun

The BBC RaW Family Story Festival will feature hands-on story-telling activities for the family to enjoy, set inside Max And Lara's amazing travelling space circus.

Fun activities will be available for all to try – from quick and easy story-writing workshops, animation to puppetry, making comic books and much more.

Costumed Max and Lara characters, jugglers, clowns, magicians, face-painters, story-tellers and presenters from BBC Radio Norfolk will all be taking part in the circus throughout the weekend.

By joining in the activities, adults and children will be able to collect an array of great family resources – story books, activity packs, pencil kits, magnetic poetry kits and badges.

BBC RaW

RaW is the BBC's biggest ever campaign that aims to help adults to read and write better.

Although there is a special focus on family learning, RaW is for everyone - there are 12 million adults in the UK who struggle with reading and writing.

Visit the BBC RaW website for more information.

The free BBC RaW Family Story Festival takes place in Chapelfield Gardens, Norwich, on Saturday, 6 and Sunday 7, October, 2007.
