DJ Flight is hosting Norwich's event

Norwich to boom to Xtra Bass

BBC 1Xtra's DJ Flight is getting set to make drum 'n' bass fans' mood soar when she lands at Norwich's Lava And Ignite club as part of the station's Xtra Bass week. She will be joined on the decks by guests including Pendulum and Fabio.

Drum 'n' bass tunes will be aired to the nation from Norwich when DJ Flight steers the BBC 1Xtra tour bus into the city on Wednesday 15 March, 2006.

She will be broadcasting from the bus starting at 10pm, before leading a stream of special guests into Lava And Ignite, Riverside, at midnight to take over the turntables and stage for part two of the live broadcast.

The Norwich event is part of the station's annual Xtra Bass week, with showcases also being held at Bristol, Edinburgh and Manchester among other cities.

The cream of the scene will be in Norwich to show off their sounds with the bill boasting a live set from Craggz And Parallel Forces, as well as Pendulum, Fabio, LSB and Scheme on the decks.

Fans can see whether MCs Stamina, Eskman and Dynamite live up to their names on the mic, while in room two the dance floor will reverberate to choice selections by Rodney P And Skitz, Heartless Crew and Norwich's Def Tex.

Local connections

1Xtra is partnering up with local drum 'n' bass stalwarts Bounce for the party.

DJ Flight is looking forward to seeing if the night lives up to her expectations after welcoming the Bounce DJs on to her show a few weeks ago.

"I've chosen Norwich for my night for the Xtra Bass week because I've never played there before and I've been hearing really good things and I know the Bounce guys who we're teaming up with to do the night," she said.

"They have been doing some pretty good parties and they're building up a nice reputation for themselves," she added.

Bounce co-promoter Kerry Negus, who DJs under the name Scheme, said he is delighted to welcome 1Xtra along to their event.

"We're really chuffed we've got the opportunity to show off drum 'n' bass to a lot of people who wouldn't normally come to our night," he said.

"We're keen to show people what we do. For this event there's going to be drum 'n' bass, hip-hop and garage so there is something for everyone.

"It's a little bit of an experiment and we're really pleased to have the support of the BBC for this one," he added.

Strong scene

The Xtra Bass tour is dropping into six cities on six nights, and the fact that organisers have picked Norwich is a reflection of the strength of its drum 'n' bass scene according to Kerry.

"I DJ around the country and Norwich is up there with Sheffield, London and Bristol," he said.

"Norwich has one of the best atmospheres and the DJs love it. We had Pendulum here recently and I know they'll be pleased to be back so soon," he added.

  • Xtra Bass comes to Lava And Ignite, Norwich, on Wednesday 15 March 2006, from 9pm until 3am. Tickets are £5 in advance from Bounce Records, 18 Bridewell Alley, Norwich. No dress code.
