KT Tunstall arranged a memorable wedding present for the sister of her drummer boyfriend when she appeared on BBC Radio Norfolk's Bride Of The Week slot. The Scottish singer performed her hit song, Black Horse And The Cherry Tree, from her top 10 album for Charlotte Bullen after presenter Stewart White surprised the bride with a phone call to her parents' Norfolk home.  | | The bride and groom with her family |
The performance was organised by Charlotte's brother, Luke, who drums in KT's band, to celebrate her wedding at Lenwade. Luke, who now lives in London, has been going out with the star for three years. The drummer, who has also played with Joe Strummer, the Stone Roses' John Squire and Cerys Matthews, planned the treat to thank Charlotte for her encouragement. "My sister has always been 100 per cent supportive of my career and always travels to London and beyond to see me play shows including Glastonbury this year when within an hour of arriving she fell head first in the mud," said Luke. Last week, art teacher Charlotte and her groom Gary Archer travelled to the capital for KT's first appearance on Top Of The Pops and were filmed dancing on the podiums. On Saturday it was KT's turn to repay the favour which left Charlotte "absolutely speechless." While the weekend before KT and her boyfriend played to thousands of fans at the V festival, the singer said her Radio Norfolk performance on the Saturday morning show would be unforgettable because it's the earliest time she's sung. Before setting off to get ready for the wedding, KT chatted to Stewart about her Nationwide Mercury Prize nomination for her debut album, Eye To The Telescope. "I think with something like the Mercury the nomination is a big award in itself," she said. "It's a big tip of the hat to someone who has made an album. It's not a sales-based award - it's 12 guys in a room finding some pretty weird records," she added. Whatever the judges' decision, it will make little difference to local enthusiasm for the singer, whose October gig at Norwich's University Of East Anglia has sold out. |
