Falcon Burnz in full flight on the mic.
Falcon Burnz in full flight on the mic

Falcon Burnz profile

MC Falcon Burnz has been flying the Norwich flag for the UK hip-hop scene. The 23-year-old has warmed up for acts including Ice-T, Tim Westwood, Vinyl Dialect and fellow city hip-hop collective Def Tex.

Falcon Burnz is a hip-hop lyricist originally from east London, but now representing the scene in Norwich.

Falcon, aka Dru Stanford, started out at open mic nights around East Anglia before making his first major performance at the age of 17 on the same bill as successful UK hip-hip acts Disorder, Def Tex, Vinyl Dialect and MSI & Asylum.

Throughout 1999 and 2001, he started working on tracks which paved the way for the three-track Hellfire EP. The record was produced by an old school friend, Keir Watson, who works under the name Guzzla.

In 2002 Falcon and Guzzla began to release their recordings, mainly through the internet. Their album, First Strike, raised their profile and introduced some of the hip-hop community to their work.

Area Six

During 2003, the Norwich hip-hop label Area Six was set up, which gave the 23-year-old a chance to get back on stage when he supported Stylee Cee at Norwich Arts Centre. He also appeared alongside other Area Six artists in a label showcase to promote its compilation album, Monkey See Monkey Doo.

For the record, Falcon Burnz and producer Ray P came up with the track Project Burnz, punctuated a catchy sampled hook. As a result of the album, some Area Six artists were selected to warm-up for American hip-hip legend Ice-T when he appeared at the Waterfront in Norwich.

Together with Area Six cohort Cypher Science, Falcon also supported Tim Westwood in Norwich and headlined hip-hop night Uncollected at the city's Lock Stock club.

Buoyed by his live performances, Falcon put together a compilation of his best tracks which he'd written over the previous two years.

The re-recorded songs were featured on the Basic Animation EP and included the songs Project Burnz and Pulse Unsigned Radio favourite Seen The Light.

New project

At the end of 2004, Falcon and Guzzla reunited and brought out a four-track EP called War. The duo's new project is called The Kaos Engine - a moniker which is reiterated in the title of their recently released LP, Kaos Theory, which includes the track, Skillz U Possess, featured on this site.

The Kaos Engine is now planning to work with ex-Cypher Science member SOD on an EP, while Falcon Burnz is collaborating with other producers and artists on new material.
