Stupid Little Things

Make a music video with the BBC

Do you play in a local band? Have you always dreamed of creating a music video? This summer let the BBC Voices centre help that dream come true, so get downloading your application form now.

Are you in a band? Have you ever wanted to shoot your own music video? Do you want live footage of your band, shots of you rehearsing or even B-movie styled zombies trying to eat your brains!

You come up with the idea and BBC Voices will help you take it from concept to finished film.

Apply now

This summer, the BBC Voices centre, based at The Forum in Norwich, will help four up-and-coming bands to make their own music video - providing them with equipment and industry expertise.

Bands will be given the chance to use DV cameras, minidisc recorders and digital stills photography - along with the editing and post-production facilities for video, audio and photos. Camera and production staff will also be on hand to offer advice and guidance.

If you play in a Norfolk-based band and are aged between 15 and 30, then now is the time to submit your application. Four bands will then be selected to work with the BBC for a week each in August.

"Many young bands already have the sound, but they want to look good as well," said BBC Voices producer Gary Standley.

"Trying to impress the record executives to secure that all important record deal could depend on having a good video. This is exactly what we are offering," he added.

The creative process

Whilst any band can approach a film maker and have their video produced, with this project bands will actually get to have much more say in what the final product will look like.

"We want band members to be involved at every stage of the process," said Ian Perry from BBC Voices.

"In fact, they will be making the video themselves whilst we provide the resources and the know-how.

"This will also stand them in good stead for the future if they want to make more videos of their other songs," he added.

The BBC Voices music video project is aiming to give bands the lift-off they require for their careers.

"We want the bands to have fun making the video, whilst helping them to think more about the image they are trying to create for themselves," said Gary Standley.

"All we ask for is that they are willing to learn and work with us on the project," he added.

How do I take part

Any band wanting to take part in the project should be able to provide a professional or technically high quality recording of the track they wish to use.

Points to think about:

  • Which song is the best to choose
  • Where would you want to film? Live action footage, location, etc
  • Any props or costume that you may want to use

The closing date for applications is Friday 22 July, 2005. Use this link on the top right of this page to download an application form.

An open day will be held on Thursday 28 July in the BBC Voices centre at The Forum in Norwich for 10 bands, of which the final four will be selected. Filming will begin on Monday 1 August, 2005.

E-mail your completed application to [email protected] or send it to BBC Voices, BBC, The Forum, Millennium Plain, Norwich, NR2 2NQ.

The finished films will be posted on this website, with coverage on BBC Radio Norfolk.
