When you think of all the top songs that have been released this year, you might start to hum along to Golden by KPop Demon Hunters or Ordinary by Alex Warren.

But for lots of people, their song of 2025 is actually a song that was released back in 2015.

TikTok has named Jess Glynne's 10-year-old hit single Hold My Hand as their UK song of the year.

It's all because of a viral trend that helped the song make a comeback, earning TikTok's song of the summer earlier this year.

A viral sound has brought Jess Glynne's track back in the limelight on TikTok

Hold My Hand was TikTok's most popular track in the UK this year, which is calculated by adding up the views on posts made using the song as well as posts on an artist's profile too.

TikTok says that Jess Glynne's 2015 hit has soundtracked about 6.6 million videos on the platform.

But why did so many people use the sound in 2025?

The song has been used as part of an advert by holiday company Jet2 since 2022, and in a 2024 advert, they combined the track with voice actress Zoe Lister saying, "nothing beats a Jet2 holiday".

That advert became a viral trend when people used the audio to joke about when things go wrong on holidays.

Jess told BBC Newsbeat that it was "the most amazing feeling" to celebrate the song 10 years later.

"Seeing the way the song has reconnected to the younger generation and they've all heard it for the first time - it's just a really amazing thing to see."

Nearly 1,000 Newsrounders have been having their say by voting for their songs and artists of the year.

Way ahead of the other options, and in a race for the top spot, are Taylor Swift and the music from KPop Demon Hunters.

The next most popular picks were Sabrina Carpenter and Benson Boone.
