Liam Scholes, Hattie Dynevor and Tillie Amartey share their top tips for starting secondary school
Get a good early night before starting. I was quite tired on my first day because I didn’t realise how jam packed it was going to be.
Secondary school is a big step so it is normal to be nervous. Everyone is in the same boat as you, so talk to friends and talk to teachers or your parents about how you are feeling.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Everybody started at school at some point so if you get a bit lost ask someone from another year the way.
Take time, be kind to yourself and understand that high school is a big change so give yourself time.
Embrace the opportunities to join all the after-school clubs if that’s how you make friends.
Don’t compare yourself to others. There will be lots of different people with different levels of academic achievement but don’t try and be someone else’s best be your best.
Make lots of new friends. You’re going to make a lot of new friends and meet lots of new people – enjoy it.
