Emmanuel Jal: South Sudan 'lost boy' raps on freedom

When he was just eight years old, Emmanuel Jal was recruited by the rebel army in southern Sudan to fight against the government in Khartoum.

He was rescued by a British aid worker and smuggled to Nairobi in Kenya, where he had the chance to return to school at 11.

He is now an internationally renowned rapper and musician.

He talks to the BBC World Service's Outlook programme about his experience as a child soldier and what South Sudan's forthcoming independence on 9 July means to him.
