In pictures: Sri Lanka battles second wave of floods
Batticaloa is once again seriously affected by Sri Lanka's latest wave of floods. (Photos by Shanthy Selladurai, Batticaloa)
At least five people have been killed so far and 83,000 people displaced. These elderly women are now being cared for in a temporary shelter.
More than 230,000 people have been affected by renewed torrential rains. The area was badly hit in January too.
Residents in Batticaloa are facing food shortages as shops and supermarkets succumb to high waters.
Public transport services have been badly disrupted.
Better by boat: People are finding they have to resort to alternative means of transport.
These motorcyclists found themselves stranded on the outskirts of Batticaloa as the water was too high.
In some areas however, public buses have been able to battle their way through.
