Israeli air strikes overnight targeted official buildings in Gaza, including the police headquarters.
One of the air strikes on Saturday morning targeted the house of a Hamas leader in Jabaliya, north of Gaza City. Thirty people were injured, but he was not there at the time.
This is what a Palestinian rocket looks like after it explodes. This one landed in a village near the Israeli city of Ashdod.
And this is the damage those rockets can do - in this case, to a house near Ashdod.
Arab nations have expressed outrage at the Israeli attacks. Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdesslem visited Gaza on Saturday, where he saw the Hamas prime minister's office, destroyed in an air raid a few hours earlier.
At least seven children have been killed in the Israeli offensive, and many more injured. This girl was taken to hospital in Beit Lahia
Israel has issued call-up papers to some 16,000 soldiers. Another 75,000 are being put on standby.
Israeli tanks have been seen in the area near Gaza.
When the sirens sound, Israelis old and young - including this boy in Ashkelon on Friday - head for the air raid shelters.
But for those whose homes have been destroyed by firing from either side - like this Palestinian woman in Jabaliya - rebuilding will be a long process.
