In pictures: Tahrir square cleared
Military police and soldiers have been clearing the final few dozen demonstrators from Tahrir Square in Cairo - the focal point of protests that led to the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
The hard core of protesters had woken on Monday hoping to keep up the pressure on the new military rulers, who had vowed to dissolve parliament and suspend the constitution.
But the security forces combed the square to try to press the remaining protesters into a much smaller area.
There were a few arrests and a degree of force used as security forces tried to impose the military's agenda of getting Egyptians back to work.
Protesters were given help to remove the final tents and blankets.
The square is much freer now for traffic but concerns remain about the economy and whether the country will be gripped by a wave of strikes.
Protesters also plan to return on Friday for a massive victory parade.
