A royal marine from the Isle of Man is in hospital after being badly injured by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
Martin Peters, 23, from Douglas, is being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
It is understood he suffered shrapnel wounds and a broken leg in the explosion on Friday.
Maj Charles Wilson, of the British Legion on the island, said: "We believe his injuries are not life-threatening and we are very thankful for that."
Marine Peters took part in Armed Forces Day on the Isle of Man less than a month ago, shortly before flying out to continue his tour with 40 Commando.
"On behalf of the veteran community, I wish Martin a speedy recovery," Maj Wilson said.
"He has family and a lot of friends back on the island so I am sure when he comes home he will be given a hero's welcome.
"We are a small and caring community and this type of incident just beings the terror of war back home."
