Ice warning after heavy snowfall forces bring disruption to Wales

Coastal showers are expected on Monday evening, with the possibility of more snow to follow

Forecasters are warning of ice risks after a day of heavy snow showers brought disruption to schools and roads in parts of Wales.

Schools in Anglesey, external, Gwynedd, external, Ceredigion, external and Pembrokeshire, external were closed and some roads were affected.

In Blaenau Ffestiniog, an RAF helicopter rescued a man after a gas explosion because the roads were poor.

A seven car accident on the Anglesey A55 saw the eastbound road closed for a time, but nobody was injured.

It followed the Met Office yellow warning, external of ice.

North Wales Police said conditions were icy on the stretch of A55 dual carriageway around Gwalchmai on the island when the accident happened.

Earlier, two stretches of the A485 in Carmarthenshire were partially blocked by stuck or stranded vehicles.

The Met Office warning remains in place until 10:00 on Tuesday, covering Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, Gwynedd, Anglesey, and Conwy.
