In pictures: World Bog Snorkelling Championships 2011
The 26th World Bog Snorkelling Championships saw around 110 competitors take to the waters at Llanwrtyd Wells in Powys
"It's definitely down to technique in there," says Lindsay Ketteringham, one of the organisers
Each competitor has to swim two lengths of the 55m (180ft) Waen Rhydd Bog
The record time for the eccentric sport has fallen by almost 14 seconds in two years
Contestants can use flippers but must avoid conventional swimming strokes along the water-filled trenches
The bogs are also home to fish and insects, including the harmless but sinister-sounding water scorpions
Bog snorkellers came from all over the country. The existing record of one minute 30.66 seconds was beaten by six seconds
Conditions were said to be "decent" this year, with only a few rain showers adding to the problems facing those taking part
