Bedwellty House in Tredegar officially reopens
Bedwellty House, an early 19th Century stately home in Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent, is being officially reopened on Tuesday after a £5.9m restoration programme
The Grade II-listed mansion was originally home to the Tredegar ironmasters until it was given to the then Tredegar Urban District Council in 1900
Refurbishment work began in 2009 on the building, which is now home to Tredegar Town Council and Blaenau Gwent Registry Service
Aneurin Bevan, the founder of the NHS who was the local MP, made some of his first political speeches in the building. It is now also open to visitors and is being made available for exhibitions, weddings and other community events
Project architect Sophie Teague said: "The building is of huge significance to the area, historically, architecturally and socially. The house and gardens have been returned, as faithfully as possible, to their original condition and now it can be seen that all the work has been well worth it."
