A specially-commissioned flag is being taken on a tour of towns in the Borders as part of events to mark the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden. All pictures by Dougie Johnston.

The journey started from the Branxton memorial in Northumberland and finishes at Tweed Green in Coldstream. Small groups of riders from each town will carry the flag along the way.

The route being followed by the flag takes in Kelso, Jedburgh, Hawick, Galashiels, Melrose, Lauder, Duns and Coldstream.

The event started with the Kelso riders, with Kelso Laddie Calum Thomson leading the way.

The flag began its journey on Thursday and will conclude its travels on Sunday, the day before the 500th anniversary of the battle.

The event commemorates the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513 - one of the bloodiest battles ever fought between Scotland and England.
