Holyrood is to approve the appointment of Rosemary Agnew as the new Scottish Information Commissioner.
The £78,000-a-year job be for a fixed six-year term.
Ms Agnew, currently boss of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, will take over from Kevin Dunion, who leaves the job after eight years.
The Queen will formally approve the appointment of Ms Agnew if MSPs agree to the move in the Scottish Parliament later.
Created under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, the Scottish information commissioner is responsible for enforcing and promoting Scotland's freedom of information legislation.
