A small boat belonging to the conservation group Sea Shepherd has been impounded by police in Shetland.

It is understood the seizure of a rigid inflatable boat from the vessel named Sam Simon was in connection with campaigners attempting to stop the annual killing of pilot whales in the Faroe Islands last month.

Police Scotland said it acted after a letter from the Faroese authorities.

Sam Simon had stopped in Lerwick for fuel.

Sea Shepherd is seeking legal advice.
