Police have appealed for witnesses after a 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Edinburgh.

The incident happened at about 22:00 on Wednesday at the junction of Craiglockhart Road and Craiglockhart Quadrant.

The woman was walking home when a man approached her from behind and indecently assaulted her.

A struggle ensued and the victim forced the man off. He then ran into Craiglockhart Road.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 7in tall with a slim build and wearing a grey hooded top and dark tracksuit bottoms.

Det Chief Insp Alwyn Bell said: "This was a terrifying incident for the young woman and thankfully she was able to fend her attacker off before she came to any serious harm.

"I would ask anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity within Craiglockhart Road or the wider Craiglockhart area on Wednesday night to contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect or who has information that can help us locate him is asked to get in touch."
