BBC questions to answer on Savile

Help

Former Director-General of the BBC Greg Dyke and broadcaster and ChildLine founder Esther Rantzen say there are still questions to answer around why a Newsnight investigation into alleged abuse by Jimmy Savile was abandoned.

Speaking on the Andrew Marr show, ahead of a Panorama programme on the matter, Esther Rantzen said "Just how much evidence did Newsnight have? Because if they had enough they should have gone with it."

Former Director-General Greg Dyke said from his knowledge of the BBC, he believes the decision would have been taken by the editor of Newsnight and not from figures higher up in the broadcaster.
