Lockerbie bomber release 'inexplicable' says Portillo

The Scottish government did not realise the significance of its decision to release the Lockerbie bomber, Labour MP Gisela Stuart has said.

Michael Portillo said the release was "completely inexplicable" and recalled being in government with Margaret Thatcher at the time of the terrorist attack.

He doubted whether the "little Scottish government" would have taken the decision without advice from Westminster.

They also debated prisoners' votes with Liberal Democrat Olly Grender.
