PPI Radio Awards: BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle win 14 prizes

BBC Radio Ulster's The Blame Game took a gold award in the comedy programme category

BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle have won 14 awards at this year's Phonographic Performance Ireland (PPI) Radio Awards.

The two stations took a total of five gold, seven silver and two bronze awards at the ceremony in Galway.

BBC Radio Foyle was named the local station of the year.

The John Toal Show won gold in the magazine programme category, and The Blame Game received the top comedy programme accolade.

Music broadcaster Stephen McCauley and the documentary Muidne agus na Manannaigh also received gold prizes.

Inducted

BBC Radio Ulster won silver in the station of the year category.

Other silver awards for BBC Northern Ireland radio productions went to Thought For The Day, Stories In Sound, the Vice Girl Or Victim documentary and a week-long news series on gambling on BBC Radio Foyle.

Evening Extra received a bronze award in the news programme category and Gerry Kelly took bronze for general music.

Last month, BBC Northern Ireland broadcaster Gerry Anderson was posthumously inducted into the PPI Radio Hall of Fame.
