City of York Council earmarks land for 10,700 new homes

City of York Council has identified land on which to build 10,700 new homes by 2037.

The Conservative and Liberal Democrat-run authority revealed the house building targets as part of its Local Plan, external.

It has also earmarked land for economic development.

The plans will go before the council's executive on 30 June before any public consultation. A permanent green belt would also be created around the city.

A council spokesperson said: "The developing Local Plan aims to support the city's economic growth, addresses the shortage of housing and helps shape future developments and employment in York over the next 15 years and beyond."
