Police marksmen shot one of the three cows in danger of running onto the main road
Armed police have shot dead a cow after three escaped close to a major road out of Newcastle.
About a dozen police vehicles were sent to a patch of land off the eastbound carriageway of the A1058 Coast Road, shortly before 17:00 BST.
The police helicopter and six police marksmen tracked the cows. Two of them were recaptured and herded into a cattle truck.
The main road was temporarily closed in both directions.
