A Sussex passenger train was stopped for nearly an hour after a man climbed on top of the carriage.
The service from Haywards Heath to Littlehampton was halted near Durrington station in West Sussex at about 14:25 BST on Wednesday.
British Transport Police (BTP) said a 39-year-old man was removed from the top of the train and taken to Worthing Hospital for medical assessment.
Services on the line resumed at about 15:30 BST.
A British Transport Police spokesman added: "The incident was reported at 2.24pm and BTP attended alongside officers from Sussex Police and paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service.
"Trains were stopped whilst the 39-year-old man from Worthing was removed from the top of the train."
