Attenborough Nature Reserve helpers ring common terns
More than 1,000 common terns have been ringed at a Nottinghamshire nature reserve to aid research into the species' migration patterns.
The birds have been nesting on manmade platforms at Attenborough Nature Reserve since 1982.
The site is one of the most important inland breeding colonies in the country, according the reserve's Tim Sexton.
It is home to about 50 breeding pairs every year.
The BBC's Sally Pepper took to the water to witness the ringing process.
