Norwich City footballer Chris Martin has been charged with common assault.
The 21-year-old striker was arrested and charged with common assault in the early hours of Sunday morning, the club confirmed.
A statement on the club's website said: "It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this stage, and the matter is now in the hands of Chris' solicitors."
When asked, no-one at Norfolk Police admitted any knowledge of the charge.
Originally from Beccles in Suffolk, Mr Martin has scored 30 goals for the Canaries.
