The BNP candidate standing for elected mayor of Liverpool has been released on bail after being questioned by police over allegations of electoral fraud.
Mike Whitby was arrested at his home in North Wales on Monday on suspicion of making false statements or faking signatures on a nomination paper.
A BNP spokesman said Mr Whitby, who is 59, denied the allegations and stood by the names on his nomination form.
He is one of 12 candidates standing for election in Liverpool on Thursday.
