In pictures: Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games remembered
An exhibition celebrating the 10th anniversary of Manchester's hosting of the Commonwealth Games has opened at the city's Museum of Science and Industry, with exhibits including the Queen's accreditation pass.
The Spirit Lives On: Manchester and the Commonwealth Games, looks at all aspects of the city's role as the 2002 host city and has been put together with the help of staff who took part in the event.
Curator Meg McHugh said the games meant "a lot more to Manchester than 10 days of sport - a decade on, the legacy of the Games can be seen throughout the city and beyond".
The city hosted the XVII Commonwealth Games from 25 July to 4 August 2002 and attracted more than a million visitors. City Council leader Sir Richard Leese said it changed the city's image "for all time [and] demonstrated in Manchester, that England, the UK, is capable of hosting large-scale, world-class sporting events".
Also on show are a series of photographs taken at the event and a collection of written memories gathered from volunteers who helped at the games. The Spirit Lives On is at MOSI until 2 September 2012.
