Mayoral rivals clash over spending promises

The mayoral election campaign turned into a battle of numbers on Wednesday with Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson clashing over exactly how much City Hall could afford to spend.

As Labour candidate Mr Livingstone launched his manifesto aimed at "helping Londoners in hard times" while Conservative candidate Mr Johnson published a dossier claiming that many of his rival's promises were "unaffordable".
