First Dorset bus drivers' strike: Further five-day walkout

Bus drivers in Dorset are to press on with a further series of one-day walk outs, the company has said.

First Dorset drivers in Weymouth and Bridport in Dorset began their first round of action over drivers' pay on 20 June.

The firm said about 60% of its drivers were involved in strike action.

The bus firm said its drivers were expected to walk out for a further five days from 30 August until 4 September, excluding 1 September.

The firm said the days were in addition to the current strike period of 26-28 August.

Unite said the walk outs were set to go ahead "if no breakthrough can be found to resolve the dispute which is primarily focused on pay".

It comes after talks to discuss the arbitration process by both sides ended without agreement.

First Dorset said a further walkout was "unnecessary".

Unite has previously said Weymouth and Bridport drivers earn £8.80 an hour but want it to rise to £9.50 over three years to match the wages of drivers in Yeovil, Somerset.
