In pictures: Pirates of Penzance in world record bid
A total of 8,734 people in fancy dress assembled on Penance promenade on Sunday 25 June at 1300 in an attempt to break the World record for the most number of 'pirates' in one place
They smashed the previous world record set by 6,166 pirates in Hastings in 2010.
The pirate gathering was part of the Golowan Festival in Penzance which celebrates the traditional feast of St John.
Cutlasses and parrots were popular accessories.
Some pirates brought real parrots to the gathering.
"Ship Ahoy", a pirate spots a pirate boat out to sea.
"Pirate ship" the Matthew sailed in to support the record attempt.
Cannon were fired to ward off "enemies" of the pirates.
The skull and crossbones was out in force on the Penzance promenade.
Some pirates took their role very seriously.
