Woman dies 'in hit-and-run' collision in Birmingham

Police received reports of a woman collapsed in Sutton New Road during the early hours

A woman has been killed in a possible hit-and-run crash.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found in Sutton New Road near Erdington High Street, Birmingham, at about 03:45 GMT.

Police believe she was struck by a vehicle and officers have been trying to trace the driver.

A police spokesman said the force was keeping an "open mind" into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

Sgt Alan Wood said officers were looking at CCTV footage.

"We would ask anyone who was driving in the area of Sutton New Road near to Swan Gardens between 3am and 3.45am to contact me or one of my team as you may hold vital information that could help our investigation," he said.
