Part of Tile Cross Road has been cordoned off by police
A man suffered serious injuries in a machete attack on a Birmingham street.
The victim, 50, was hurt in Tile Cross Road, Shard End, shortly after 08:10 GMT in what police think was a "targeted" assault.
Det Insp Caroline Corfield said: "This was a nasty attack that happened in a busy area in broad daylight this morning."
A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is to be questioned.
Officers also want to track down a man who was seen to run from the scene and drive off in a blue BMW.
Det Insp Corfield said several witnesses had come forward and West Midlands Police wanted to hear from anyone else who had information.
"At this early stage we believe this to have been a targeted attack," she said.
"This kind of violence will not be tolerated and we need your help to bring those responsible to justice."
Officers have cordoned off part of Tile Cross Road while the scene is investigated.
