It is hoped the relief road will help ease congestion by diverting through traffic on the A327 at Shinfield
The M4 is being closed as construction begins on a bridge for a major new relief road.
The motorway will be shut in both directions later for five nights between junctions 10 and 11 near Reading from 21:00 to 06:00 GMT.
The bridge will form part of the construction of the new Shinfield Eastern Relief Road, and begins with the installation of twelve steel beams.
Signed diversions will be in place via the B3270 and A329.
It is hoped the relief road will help ease congestion by diverting through traffic on the A327 at Shinfield.
The bridge, which received £24.7m of funding from the then housing minister Mark Prisk in 2013, will carry six traffic lanes.
