Royal Berkshire Hospital cancer unit gets £8m funding

A cancer unit is set to receive new equipment at a cost of £8m to help more people with the disease.

Health chiefs at the Royal Berkshire Hospital said 1,200 extra patients will be able to undergo treatment at its cancer centre.

Funding will help to buy two linear accelerators which give radiotherapy.

The hospital hopes up to 1,200 extra patients will be treated at the centre, which currently treats about 3,600 people a year.

It is the largest invesment in equipment at the unit, which opened in 1989.
