Professor Derek Ward is monitoring spikes of coronavirus cases in neighbouring counties and says it's important people support track and trace.

He says it's about striking a balance between "minimising the risk of infection and making sure we get the economy going again".

"Obviously, people coming into Lincolnshire is a source of income for the county, so we've got to get that balance right. A key way to do that is to make sure we're on top of any outbreaks," he says.

"If we don't get details of people then the risk is greater that we'll end up having some sort of local lockdown if we can't trace people."

The Gainsborough MP Sir Edward Leigh has called on the government to allow football fans to go back to non-league matches.

He's tweeted that The Northolme, which is where Gainsborough Trinity play, has enough capacity to allow social distancing. Sir Edward says he will ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Oliver Dowden to look at the situation.

The man in charge of seven Lincolnshire schools says the government is right to press ahead with plans to get children back to class after they were closed due to coronavirus.

David Hampson, head of the Toll Bar Multi Academy Trust, says he "understands" people's concerns, but warns of a "massive impact" if children don't return to school in September.

Mr Hampson's comments come as the Education Secretary says there is little evidence of coronavirus being transmitted in schools.

Gavin Williamson says the government is being guided by the best science as it accelerates plans to reopen schools to all pupils in England next month.

He has suggested an upcoming study would support the government's position on reopening schools.

Mr Hampson says if children don't go back to school soon, the country will face the problem of a "lost generation".

He adds: "The whole economy is going to collapse. Let's be honest, parents going to work rely on their children being in school."

A total of 400,000 cubic metres of sand has been pumped onto Lincolnshire's beaches recently, according to the Environment Agency.

The sand helps protect 20,000 homes, 24,000 static caravans and 35,000 hectares of farmland between Mablethorpe and Skegness.

The Environment Agency says the work is vital in protecting the coastline.

The annual replenishment work has just finished after it was delayed for two months because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Aquariums are one of the places where a face covering became mandatory on Saturday along with attractions like museums and places of worship due to the pandemic.

Staff say things are slowly getting back to normal, but they are limiting the number of visitors who are allowed to dive in the tanks as part of the aquarium's Dive Experience so they don't stress the animals out.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the changes to the rules on face coverings in England earlier this month when he also postponed the further easing of lockdown due to the spike in virus cases.

Those who break the law on wearing masks in England face fines of up to £100, with the PM saying there would be a "greater police presence" to ensure the rules were being followed.

A motorcyclist has died after being involved in a crash with a car in South Kesteven at the weekend.

The biker, a man in his 60s, died after being in collision with a silver Kia Sportage at the Swayfield junction on Bourne Road in Corby Glen at about 12:15 on Sunday.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who has dash camera footage, is being asked to contact Lincolnshire Police.

A Grimsby teacher who delivered free meals to his pupils during the coronavirus lockdown has completed a fundraising cycle ride.

Zane Powles, assistant head at Western Primary School, delivered more than 7,500 packed lunches during the pandemic, walking about five miles each day to drop off the food to students' homes.

He has now finished a 1,500-mile cycle ride raising more than £5,000 for charities providing free meals for children.

Mr Powles arrived in Cleethorpes on Sunday after spending just over a week cycling between castles in London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Cardiff and Belfast.

Greeted by cheering supporters, an emotional Mr Powles said he did not think he could complete the challenge.

"I got up crying and I just thought I can't do this, I just can't do another day because I knew it was about 90 miles," he said.

"I thought I can't do another day, but I thought I've just got to push those pedal things and the miles will just disappear in front of me," he added.

Child sexual offences in Lincolnshire have increased by just under 75% in five years, according to the NSPCC.

The charity is calling for urgent action to tackle what is calls a "crisis of abuse".

It says over 1,000 child sex offences were recorded by Lincolnshire Police last year. That compares to 598 in 2014-15.

The charity says the figures - which are reflected nationally - show the need for urgent action to prevent abuse.

In response, Lincolnshire Police says it's developed a Safeguarding Hub to work better with partners and identify victims.

The force also says it wants to hear from carers, parents and family members who suspect abuse in a bid to prevent it happening in the first place.

A cyclist who was left seriously injured following a collision with a car in Skegness at the weekend has died, police have confirmed.

The collision happened at about 06:20 on Sunday at the Clock Tower roundabout.

The 70-year-old man was subsequently taken to hospital by air ambulance, but later died, according to Lincolnshire Police.

Anyone who saw what happened, including a number of pedestrians who are believed to have been in the area at the time, are being asked to contact police.
