A BBC Introducing artist from Lincolnshire has been praised by one of the biggest selling artists of 2019.

Lewis Capaldi, the Scottish singer behind Someone You Loved and Before You Go, described Holly Humberstone's music as "class" on his social media feed.

It has exposed the Grantham singer to the global star's 4.2m followers on Instagram.

Humberstone said it's "sooo so mad!!" that an artist she looks up to so much would praise her music in this way.

The Rev Canon Dr Paul Overend denies grabbing the woman and kissing her at a party more than 20 years ago.

A cathedral chancellor has appeared in court charged with a historical indecent assault on a student.

The Reverend Dr Paul Overend, 53, who was appointed Canon Chancellor at Lincoln Cathedral in 2017, is accused of grabbing the woman and kissing her at a party while he was a chaplain at Cardiff University in 1997.

Neil Evans, defending, told Cardiff Magistrates' Court his client denied indecent assault.

He added: "The defence say this incident didn't happen at all. No misunderstanding, it just didn't take place."

The case was sent to Cardiff Crown Court with a hearing set for 2 January.

Rev Overend spent seven years as university chaplain in Cardiff before teaching philosophy and ethics at the university and at Liverpool Hope University.

He was given the full-time post of chancellor at Lincoln Cathedral in November 2017, leading the cathedral's work on public theology and Christian education, before stepping down 14 months later when he was charged by South Wales Police.

Rev Overend , from Lincoln, was granted unconditional bail.

An Anglo Saxon coin hoard has sold for £90,000 at auction, triple its provisional estimate.

The hoard includes two coins which were minted in Louth (pictured above) which, until now, experts hadn't known about.

The two Lincolnshire coins fetched a price of £10,540 and £6,820. Their guide price was between £4,000 and £5,000 each.

Its thought the 93-coin hoard (below), which was found in Suffolk, was buried by a pilgrim during the reign of Aethelred II between 978AD and 1016AD.

It's thought they buried the coins because of worries about an impending apocalypse at the turn of the first millennium.

Repairs to riverbanks in Lincolnshire which burst three and a half weeks ago are now under way.

The Barlings Eau burst its banks after heavy rainfall in the first weekend of November.

About 1,500 acres of farmland were flooded as a result, forcing farmers to use boats to reach their cut-off homes (pictured).

The Environment Agency (EA) says engineers are installing pilings to plug the breach in the river, then water will be pumped off the land before the bank is rebuilt using clay and soil.

Meanwhile, repairs are also under way at the Timberland Delph, another waterway which broke its banks in a village near Woodhall Spa after heavy rain.

The agency also say it's been inspecting flood defences across the county and making repairs to anything which felt the strain of excessive rain.

The EA says this autumn's rainfall was double the usual average and set record water levels on the Rivers Witham and Ancholme.

One of Margaret Thatcher's handbags is to go on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The Grantham-born Prime Minister's handbags became iconic after a cartoon appeared in a national newspaper showing Mrs Thatcher hitting Argentina with one during the Falklands War.

The display at the London museum, called Bags: Inside Out, will feature 300 different items and investigate the importance of the accessory.

The former prime minister was pictured with the bag (pictured) outside 10 Downing Street in 1987 after a meeting with The Queen.

The museum was criticised in 2015 for turning down an offer to display items from Mrs Thatcher's wardrobe.

Scunthorpe and Port Vale are fined for "failing to ensure players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion" by the FA.

A man accused of stabbing a wheelchair user in Lincoln city centre has denied a wounding charge.

Kerry Fletcher, 54, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty at Lincoln Crown Court to wounding Clinton Smith on 11 October with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

He also denied possession of an article with a blade in St Benedict's Square and damaging a police van on the same day.

Recorder Charles Falk remanded him in custody and adjourned the hearing for a trial due to start on 1 April 2020.

A man in his 20s has been told he could face a jail term after admitting sex charges at Lincoln Crown Court today.

David Maltby pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.

He also admitted two charges of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

The charges relate to the period between 6 and 19 June this year involving someone that Maltby believed to be a 14-year-old girl.

Maltby, 21, of Redthorne Close, Spalding, was granted conditional bail and sentence was adjourned to 10 January.

Two World War Two bomb disposal experts will be honoured at a memorial later.

Wing Cdr Leonard Harrison and Flt Lt John Dowland (pictured) were based at RAF Manby near Louth.

They both were awarded the George Cross for their actions defusing a bomb which fell on a grain ship at Immingham docks during World War Two.

East Lindsey District Council, which is now based at the former RAF site, will plant trees and place plaques in their memory later today.

The body of missing man Michal Krysztofczyk has been recovered from a river, police said.

He was found on Tuesday in the River Trent near Dunham Bridge, on the border of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

The 27-year-old was reported missing from Cross Street, Newark, on 18 November.

Nottinghamshire Police said the circumstances surrounding his death are still being investigated but are not thought to be suspicious.

Mr Krysztofczyk's family has been informed and his death has been referred to the coroner.

Lincolnshire's sprout crop has been unaffected by this year's heavy rain in the county, according to one of the county's food producers.

Staff at TH Clements near Boston, who harvest the sprout crop, say they were worried heavy rain this summer may have affected the crop.

Heavy rainfall caused flooding in nearby Wainfleet in June.

But staff say conditions since then have been perfect sprout growing weather and are in action ahead of the Christmas rush right now:

A Lincoln estate agents is counting the cost this morning after a car crashed through its front window.

The crash happened on Silver Street last night, with the car appearing to have come off the road after mistakenly turning the wrong way down the one-way road.

No one was seriously injured in the crash.

The estate agents have joked they will be open as usual this morning, "but wearing extra layers"...

Funding for transport in Lincolnshire and the East Midlands is lower than anywhere else in the UK, a new report suggests.

Centre-left think tank IPPR North has analysed HM Treasury figures for 2018-19.

Treasury data shows that in 2018-19, £903 was spent in the capital for every resident, while the figure for the East Midlands was £268 and £276 in Yorkshire and the Humber.

The data included all public spending and was based on the number of residents in each region.

IPPR North's interim director Arianna Giovannini said: "Sometimes there is an argument that goes along the lines of, 'There are more people in London and there are a lot of people travelling in London and commuting in London', but our point is not that London should get less, it's not an 'either or' argument."

The government said its spending decisions were "rigorous and fair" and said the figures did not include money for future projects like HS2.

The Department for Transport pointed to explanations about the Treasury's figures, indicating London's higher spending included capital investment from Transport for London, and did not account for commuters and visitors from outside the city.
