In pictures: Hacienda 30th anniversary
An exhibition of memorabilia from the famous Hacienda nightclub in Manchester has gone on display to mark the 30th anniversary of the club's opening. The venue was knocked down a decade ago but visitors to the exhibition at the Manchester Photographic Gallery can walk through the original doors.
The club opened in 1982 and was owned by the Factory Records label and the band New Order. It became renowned as the epicentre of the "Madchester" scene and acid house movement - but also became synonymous with drug rivalries and gang violence. It was finally shut down in 1997.
A replica of the original building has been made by model maker and 3D installation artist Nick Hardy, with the interior decor and fittings faithfully recreated in miniature inside the model (right).
Apartments were built on the site after the club was demolished. The block's underground car park (right), with pillars decorated in the club's yellow and black stripes, will be the venue for a 30th anniversary party for 500 people organised by ex-New Order and Joy Division star Peter Hook on 21 May.
Hook also owns much of the memorabilia in the exhibition, including a bass guitar made from the Hacienda floorboards. Two more anniversary parties are being held at the Sankeys nightclub in June, with people who buy ticket for those nights entered into a draw for the car park event.
