In pictures: Brit Insurance Design Awards winners 2011
Stylish energy saving light bulb, the Plumen 001 has been crowned overall winner of the Brit Insurance Design Awards after topping the product category. Judges said the design by Hulger and Samuel Wilkinson brought "a small measure of delight to an everyday product."
The furniture Award went to the Branca chair, designed by UK practice Industrial Facility. Made from a single piece of wood produced robotically, it is inspired by wooden branches that turn, twist, meet and branch off.
The "Boris Bikes", otherwise known as London's Barclays Cycle Hire scheme won the Transport category. The jury liked the fact that "no-one thought it was a gorgeous object" but the bikes were useful and capable of evolution.
An Open Air Library in Magdeburg, Germany, won the architecture prize. Judges said it "energises a tired corner of an exhausted city" and "may be unrealistic but it's nonetheless inspiring".
Jill Sander's range for high street chain Uniqlo, +J, won the Fashion Award for its Autumn/Winter collection 2010. The jury called it a "democratic approach to fashion" because of its style, glamour and price.
This is one of the creative shots that won Ikea cookbook Homemade the graphics prize. The picture, by Forsman & Bodenfors formed a 140-page baking book with a twist, by putting the ingredients in focus.
The interactive prize went to an an iPad application called Flipboard - a "personalised social magazine". Links that friends share on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are picked up by Flipboard and laid out in a magazine format.
