Ian Corcoran: 'I left teaching after threats and assault'

Police investigated more than 30,000 alleged crimes linked to schools last year, the Victoria Derbyshire programme has learned.

The figure - collated from the responses of 32 forces across England, Wales and Northern Ireland under the Freedom of Information Act - is equivalent to 160 allegations per school day.

Reporter Nicola Beckford spoke to former teacher Ian Corcoran, who was unable to work again due to ill health after one of his pupils assaulted him in the school playground.

Gerald Meehan, strategic director of children and families for Cheshire West and Chester Council, said in a statement: "The head teacher of the school in question is adamant that all correct procedures were followed at the time."

Viewers may find some of Ian's story upsetting.
