In pictures: Dennis Hopper
Dennis Hopper, who has died at the age of 74, enjoyed a long and turbulent Hollywood career, starring in classics such as Blue Velvet and Easy Rider.
Jack Nicholson (r) appeared alongside Hopper in the iconic road movie Easy Rider, which Hopper also co-wrote and directed.
Hopper was effectively blacklisted by Hollywood during the 1970s because of his outrageous reputation.
Hopper's turn in Blue Velvet in 1986 saw his career revived.
Nicholson was just one of the celebrities who joined Dennis Hopper at the unveiling of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Hopper's daughter Galen and granddaughter Violet were also at the ceremony in Los Angeles.
In later years Hopper combined movie appearances with TV roles, including 24, Crash and E-Ring.
Hopper and wife Victoria Duffy were married for 14 years before separating months before his death.
