The Presenter

A former barrister, Clive Anderson is a successful comedy writer and radio and television presenter. He also appears on TV shows such as ‘Have I Got News For You?’ and QI.

The Students

Eight diverse personalities compete for a chance to perform in front of thousands at BBC Proms in the Park. They are: drum’n’bass artist Goldie, Blur bassist Alex James, actress Jane Asher, newsreader Katie Derham, broadcaster Peter Snow, actor David Soul, comedian Sue Perkins and actor and comedian Bradley Walsh.

The Mentors

Each student is assigned their own mentor, an established professional conductor, to help them master the disciplines of orchestra, choral and operatic music. They are: Brad Cohen, Jason Lai, Natalia Luis-Bassa, Matthew Rowe, Ivor Setterfield, Peter Stark, Sarah Tenant-Flowers and Christopher Warren-Green.

The Orchestra

Formed in 1952, the BBC Concert Orchestra performs a wide repertoire of music including classical, light music and film scores. The Orchestra can be heard on countless BBC TV soundtracks including Blue Planet and Planet Earth, Walking with Dinosaurs, The Key, Wild Down Under and Peter Ackroyd’s London.

The Judges

A panel of four leading international musicians will assess the students’ progress.

They are: Sir Roger Norrington, who conducts this year’s Last Night of the Proms, cellist and composer Zoë Martlew, conductor Simone Young and double bassist Dominic Seldis.
