Johnny Marr, former lead guitarist with The Smiths, is a real guitar man, a true obsessive, emotionally engaged, and alive to the traditions and politics of the instrument. He created one of the most distinctive guitar sounds of the 80s. And he's now a visiting professor of music at Salford University. Here he muses on how he fell in love with the guitar.
