NEWS: Newsbeat live from the Live 8 site

The Live 8 stage

Radio 1's Newsbeat broadcast live from Hyde Park the day before Live 8

1 July 2005

Newsbeat has everything you need to know about the biggest gig the world's ever seen with a half hour extended Newsbeat.

Twenty years on from that original Live Aid concert, Newsbeat got stuck into what all this is about - What exactly is Bob Geldof hoping he'll achieve from Live 8? And what is Make Poverty History. It's more than just wearing one of those white wristbands. And it's not just London - Newsbeat has reporters all round the world.

Georgina and Fran

Newsbeat spoke to the event's key organiser Harvey Goldsmith who's responsible for the smooth running on stage. He'd been walking round all morning with his phone clamped to his ear and a fag in his mouth. He helped organise the original Live Aid 20 years ago. Then it was all a bit different - the idea was simple - to raise as much money as possible to help starving people in Africa.

Travis' Fran Healey had also come for a sneak preview of the site.
