What was your Live 8 defining moment?

    Keith, Manchester
U2, Pink Floyd, and REM were great, but I must admit that Madonna was with out a doubt thye highlight of the show. Her embrace with the ethiopian girl who survived famine, all three songs, and her bluntness in facing the matter and getting the crowds attention were stunning!

    Seryozha Belgorod, Russia
Madonna was brilliant. The whole show was fabulous, but I must admit that Madonna engaging the whole crowd to clap there hands together while singing "Music makes the people come together" was not only exciting, but also put the whole purpose of the show into context.

    Ken, Leixlip,Ireland.
Pink Floyd group hug on stage - it would have been so sad for their careers to end the way things were, now that can't happen. I'm so pleased.

    Joan, St Helens
All of it was moving - the video of that little boy with his head in his hands just killed me. Musically, Velvet Revolver were just awesomely brilliant - Slash is a legand, fantastic, fabulous. Fall to Pieces is brilliant. Annie Lennox was just superb

    Aja, New York State, USA
Had to watch the London show via the Internet, as the US television coverage was awful. The best moments from an entertainment standpoint were Robbie Williams and Keane, but I felt the most moving moment was when the young woman from Ethiopia came out onto the stage.

    Natalie , poole,dorset
I think will smith clicking his fingers was really moving for me. I watched it in the crowd in bournemouth and the whole crowd there singing i dont like mondays with bob was the best moment of the day for me.

    Imran, Cambridge
Pink Floyd outstripped every other artist at Live 8 visually , emotionally and musically. Once I heard the sound of the human heartbeat and saw the pulse on the giant video screens.....I knew it could only be floyd. Then the first chord of Breathe kicked in - awesome. Please boys, do another tour

    Gerardo
Macca, Pink Floyd, The Who were definitely the best. Stereophonics and The Killers were also great.

    Kim Goddard, Blandford Forum Dorset
Richard Ashcroft and Coldplay singing Bitter Sweet Symphony was an awesome sight one of the best songs ever written performed by a great singer and one of the best bands it blew me away.

    Rachel, Geneva
Robbie doing We Will Rock You. A sea of hands and a chorus of voices. And Birhan on stage with Madonna - looking at her, how dare anybody think that this is a waste of time?

    DaveM, Ohio, USA
Bonos moving speech and then U2's powerful performance of "one". What a great man and what a great band I tell you...

    Helen, Oxford
The whole day was a amazing, its really hard to pin down any one part, however Keane gave an outstanding performance.

    Marc Neudeck. Ashford,Kent
The Pink Floyd reunited, brief, but beautiful. Almost moving myself and i suspect many others to the verge of tears. If that was really the last time, then a happier ending and a worthier cause there cannot be.

    Sarah from Dartford
For pure entertainment i loved Peter Kay NOT getting off the stage and the whole crowd marching to '...Amerillo', BUT Will Smith, getting the whole world it seemed, clicking every three seconds was THE MOST POIGNANT moment by far. And performance...it has to be Annie Lennox singing her first song with no band, just a piano and the huge screen behind her showing everyone why the concert was being held!

    Amy Baker, Evesham.
The whole day was amazing. Robbie really got everyone rockin! The sound of 200,000 people singing Angels is something I will always remember. The film accompanying Annie Lennox was really moving and reminded me why we were all there. I could go on, I loved it all!!

    amz from wiltshire
my moment was seeing mariah carey and joss stone they both looked stunning and should be proud of themselves they sang beautifully and robbie had the gals screaming well done to all of them x

    Alli, Birmingham UK
Performance wise, Madonna and Robbie were incredible and who could have held back the tears when Birham came on stage - so moving and uplifting at the same time. I just hope people don't walk away having been to/watched the concerts and forget we have to ACT to make poverty history. It's not just about a free pop concert.

    Heather and Roisin from London
Live 8 was the most amazing concert ever!Coldplay and Richard Ashcroft were one of the best acts! Snoop and Pink Floyd breatyh taking! The best experience of our lives!

    Hannah Portsmouth
Annie Lennox singing "Why" was the most moving part of the day for me. Hats off to Madonna, Robbie, The Who and The Scissor Sisters too. Lets hope that the day wasn't a waste of time come Wednesday.

Paulo Cesar, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Coldplay & Mr. Ashcroft, Keane, Annie Lennox, Madonna and Robbie Williams. Live 8 was amazing.

    Viki, Chorley
When Bob Geldof brought out the beautiful african girl helped by Live Aid, that was the moment that should have erased any doubts people may have had about the effectiveness of these events. Robbie was amazing, as were Keane and U2. Will Smith was great as always, when he lead the finger clicking I was close to tears, as I was throughout the day. The atmosphere looked incredible, I just wish I had been there to experience it

    Sarah Smith, Trowbridge, Wiltshire
When the crowd saw the film of the child who was like an old man without enough strength to even stand up straight! I experienced every emotion in the space of 10 minutes! and to see that beautiful woman who was so close to death made me feel moved and passionate to do whatever I can!

    Bones Jones London
Annie Lennox, Pink Floyd, Robbie Williams were all superb. A once in a lifetime lineup making a point! Madonna blew it though!

Patrick Bastow, Angmering, Sussex by the sea
For thought provoking moments it was the Will Smith finger clicking, the Car's video followed by the African lady, and the video during one of Annie Lennox's songs. For laughs it was Ricky Gervais (although I heard Peter Kay was hilarious on TV but that didn't come accross in the crowd at Hyde Park). For music Robbie provided the 'Queen Moment'. Razorlight provided the 'U2' moment and Pink Floyd were just Pink Floyd - Brillant. Let hope that the concerts were worthwhile.

    Jan, Liverpool
Very moving day. Music highlights for me were Velvet Revolver (just fantasic, brilliant), Annie Lennox, still amazing, and Pink Floyd. Felt they were much better than the established stars such as U2, Paul McCartney and Elton John

    Marcos Balbinotti from Brazil
Pink Floyd are the BEST!!! Great performance, Fantastic concert!

    Jim from USA
Without a doubt the highlight was Pink Floyd! If Roger and Dave can reconcile, there is hope for peace in the middle east. The young african girl comes in a close second place. She is beautiful and so is her story.

    Fil, S.W. Wales
It was all amazing. Will getting the world clicking it's fingers to make a point, the film from Live Aid set to 'Drive' and then rounded off with the Floyd putting petty squabbles aside and performing faultlessly after nearly a quarter of a century on.

    Andew , south wales
Too many good bits to mention - Could have done better with quo starting, but U2 doing One - They started quite nervously I thought but pulled it off magically- Pink Floyd were Classic, as was robbie the showman, the who, the phonics, Maria Carey, Geldof kept the focus on the real issues as with live aid - and pulled the whole thing together

    Jenny Cooper, Manchester
Very emotional day - Three defining moments: Annie Lennox singing fantastically whilst showing us in pictures why we were there; clicking our fingers every 3 seconds after we had seen the numbers of people dying racing up on screen with a face every now and then; replay of Liveaid footage and Sir Bob bringing on the girl we were so sure must have died - Sir Bob you have to be one of the most selfless men on the planet.

    Emma, Hull
Annie Lennox singing 'WHY'. my sister and I were watching in tears. Everyone else was wonderful too (with one or two exceptions). Fantastic Bob, well done.

    Laura, Worcester
I have got to say that Robbie stole the show and proved what a great entertainer he is. U2 were also brilliant and over all a great emotional day for everyone.

    Ian Fulham
Pete Dohery and Richard Ashcroft were great. Rodney williams was rubbish as ever.

    Kerry, Bournemouth
Snow Patrol were fantastic as were the Stereophonics and REM. The crowd all loved Madonna (I was near the front!)but the best was probably Bob Geldof singing I don't like Mondays. All those people who have moaned about the swearing have far too much time on their hands - if you're going to complain, make it about something worthwhile!

    Keegan Peacey Warrington
When Madonna joined hands with the girl who nearly became a victim to this unneccesary poverty.....I realised they are both equal accept one is a millianaire superstar who lives the high live and the other had been seconds from death....In the fab soulful voice of Aniie Lennox... I ask Why?

    mark, preston
hats off to the bbc for its brilliant coverage of an awesome event. floyd, the who, madonna, u2 all brilliant and no one having a bad performance during the whole day.

    Andrew
Annie Lennox's Why ..made me question real purpose of my own existence

    Hannah, London
A few! The doves being released with U2's Beautiful Day. Will Smith doing the clicks, it silenced the crowd in Hyde Park and all u could here was clicking-eerie and moving. Keane's Bedshaped-what a pair of lungs that lead singer has! Singing along with Madonna "Music makes the people come together". It certainly does. What a show.

    jay, Northamptonshire, UK
Definatly Velvet Revolver playing on stage, its great to see Slash and co still rockin, i just grabbed my guitar and played along! Also when the young woman from africa came on stage, it showed that this does work and will continue to.

    Jack, Slough
Roger Waters whispering " Hello is there anybody in there" and then Dave Gilmour's amazingly underestimated vocals on Comfotably Numb. Only then could we really know that it wasnt a dream and the boys really were back in town - and performing with a musical lyricism unique on the day

    Emma, London
I was lucky enough to be at Hyde Park and thought U2, REM, Madonna and Robbie rocked! Seeing the beautiful Birhan Woldu was extremely moving and all the stars spoke with passion and commitment about the cause. Mariah Carey on the other hand behaved atrociously and deserved every boo she got - its a pity the people at home didn't see or hear properly the true reception she received from the audience. Shame on her.

    Sara, Oxford
I watched Live Aid and have never forgotten it. I watched Live 8 and again it has moved me. Most memorable moments were the girl on stage and how proud I felt to see how she had survived and grown into such a beautiful and dignified young woman. And Robbie, what can I say...the Robster does it every time, the place was rocking!!!!!!!!

    mary, belfast
Bono looking nervous when they first came on stage, and then letting rip with three moving and passionate songs.

    Eli......austria
Brad Pitt on stage was the best !His speech was just so cool...well done!

    Berry, Sussex
The whole day was a defining moment of my life. I practically cried through the whole things and had to leave the room a few times when my little boy kept asking why mummy wa crying and why was the little boy in the film not very well... still bringing tears to my eyes as I am writing this....

    Marina, cheltenham
U2's performance was phenomenal. The passionate words spoken by Bono plus the truly magnificent performance of 'One' brought more than just a tear to my eye and will be one aspect of Live 8 that i will never forget

    Tonny, London
2 days after this fantastic conjcert, I'm still close to tears watching the pictures and reading the reports in the newspapers... i don't know if I have a particular defining moment: from Dido & Youssou N'Dour emtional duet to Annie Lennox's moving interview to Madonna's meeting the Ethiopian girl. But, have to confess, thinking about the performances, Madonna's set was the highlight so far for me!!!!

    David Bailey, Norfolk
U2 on stage, not with Macca but alone. Beautiful Day was played amazingly and with the doves flying out during the song, set an important tone for the whole of Live 8. Bono in particular was incredible.

    Sharon Pedder.. Chesham, Bucks
Coldplay with Richard Ashcroft singing "Bitter sweet symphony" absolutely fantastic, it gave me goose bumps

    Melanie, Worcester.
Keane & Snowpatrol - anthemic tunes that got us all singing, Sir King Boss Bob - everyone's hero, the event reminding us and educating us so well why we were all there, feeling like we were a part of something amazing, 'The Who' rocking with the best sound of the day, Madonna's incredible performance, other stars pitching in and doing their bit, - a 'one-day festival' feeling of power and solidarity. A day I will never forget.

    Jo Bisasur, Lancaster
There are several moments that stood out for me, U2 performing The One brought a tear to my eye, the Stereophonics set was excellent and got the crowd going for the first time today. Will Smith and Brad Pitt's speeches were very thought provoking, I hope that the atmosphere and the underlining message came through as well on TV as it did to us in the crowd...

    Gavin Rogers, Oxfordshire
i was at the eden project and Youssou N'Dour was absolutely phenominal, i have just watched pink floyd and i nearly cried, seeing the film of the children did make me cry, but Mandella was as inspiring as ever.

    Julian, London
U2!! Were really good, Youssou N'Dour so memorable, the fantastic Mariah carey performance, she was really gracious with those kids, and Dido was ok.

    Keith Douglas, Bangor Co. Down
R.E.M, Michael Stipe didn't say much, and everybody knew how much this meant to him, he just let his music do the talking, absolutley amazing! Keane were also fantastic!. I missed U2 though because it took me 2 hours to get in!

    Cameron Wayman (London via Australia)
Without taking away from the point of the whole concert, my defining moment was when I proposed to my girlfriend and she said yes. Will be a day that neither of us ever forget.

    Edith, Southampton
And the lesson today is 'How to die'. Stood in the crowd with my sister sobbing. The white band of balloons in Everybody Hurts. The perfect, perfect, perfect Long and Winding Road. Well done to Razorlight and The Killers for being so amazing with the whole world watching. And of course..... Birhan Wuldo. x

    Brian Harden - Tetbury
Defining moment? The whole thing really. I still can't believe I was there. Macca can still show the youngsters a thing or two but Robbie is a great performer. Pity about Madonna's language. But the whole experience was indescribable.

    Ashleigh, Newcastle upon Tyne
Dido and Youssou N'dour - what a fantastic song. I was listening to them together whilst driving down the A1 and it brought tears to my eyes - fantastic.

    Debs Main - Nottingham
Robbie....playing the crowd like the master showman he is.

    Beverley, Hertfordshire
Didn't think Live Aid could be eclipsed but this was an overwhelming concert.Agree Youssou N'Dour was magnificent, moving.Cried when Roger Walters introduced "Wish you were here" with "this is for all of those not here, especially Sid..",amazing.

    Scott, Manchester
All the performances were good - but the real stars of the show were the audience and the atmosphere was simply fantastic!

    Louise, Sussex
Annie Lennox singing 'Why' with the pictures displayed behind, very moving. Plus, Dido with Youssou singing 7 seconds...awesome!! Was privileged enough to be in Hyde Park, couldn't see anyone on the stage even on tiptoes, but man what a day!! Ricky Gervais (Do the Dance!) was funny too!

    Graham, London
Best moment by far was Annie Lennox, Great choice of songs , spoken words and wonderful voice. Classy Lady!!!

    Tony Hunt, Preston
Pink Floyd were astounding. This gave the concert the credibility it needed. Many thanks to all who organised this event.

    Stuart Myers, Leeds
Sting changing the lyrics to "We'll be watching you" with the G8 leaders in the background - brilliant!

    Bij from London
I had to cry in Angles from Robbie and Thank you from Dido. Both were stunning. Love to Dido.

    Ingeborg Waanders, Netherlands
Velvet Revolver, they were on fire!

    Eve Robinson-Morley, Bedford
I have to say that in all the atmosphere the defining moment for me was when the crowd went silent after the Live Aid video. Bob Geldof's comment "I don't think we calp that" just said it all. The one time I felt the whole crowd behind the performer. Bob Geldof left me in awe more than any other artist. The best (and longest) day of my life.

    Emma from Hampshire
The most moving moment for me was when Sir Bob sang 'I don't like mondays' and again as in Live Aid he paused after 'the lesson today his how to die!'. Madonna and Robbie were the best performers. Let's hope we don't have to do this again!!!

    Phil Clayton, London
I loved it all: Coldplay, Razorlight, Annie lennox, U2 all of them really but I have to say, to my surprise Madonna stole the show. She got the whole park to sing along and it was the most emotional and energetic performance.

    Chaitanya - Mumbai, India
Well from here in Inida, we had to stay up the whole night to watch Live 8...but Pink floyd, well they were simply on the Money!! How i wish I was there...even in my living room, thousands of miles away...I was Comfortably Numb..

    Roy Singapore
Definately Madonna peformance like a prayer put me to tears. FABULOUS!!!!

    Peter, Dublin
Great performances all day, U2,REM,Snow Patrol and even Madonna. Beautiful African girl, Kaiser Chiefs in US, and the incredible performance from Pink Floyd, the most emotive musical 15 minutes I can remember

    Premdeep, India
When the Ethiopian girl came on stage after seeing her picture in the video! It was simply overwhelming! Tears, lump in the throat stuff! Hats off to everyone involved. Musically Madonna, Green Day and the crowning glory was Floyd. It was surreal to say the least. Rekindled hope.

    Ken, Cumbria
Bob Geldof introducing the beautiful Ethiopian girl was extremely touching. Will Smith's finger snapping and Bill Gates on stage were equally memorable

    amanda, cardiff
ms dynamites version of redemption song made me cry,

    Sean Middlesbrough
lots of moments but mainly The African girl and One from U2, awesome day

    Paul Jellis, Shefford
Bono's speech at the start of the day set the tone, he's a very powerful and passionate speaker. Also Annie Lennox, a stunning performance.

    frank, holland
Really a lot of great music. Annie Lennox and Paul McCartney were superb as (almost) always, but the Pink Floyd reunion - though probably shortlived - is the act I cherish most. Some of their most beautiful songs plus a moving gesture: set aside all petty feuds and come together. Isn't that what the whole event's about?

    Ruth, Kidderminster
I was at Hyde Park, and the whole day was incredible. For me, what made the day more special, was the silences. After the films had been shown, Hyde Park was so quiet. Just in shock at how bad things were. I was moved by Annie Lennox's performance with the film in the background. A great day of performances, just hope people remember the reason why it happened.

    Maria, Lyndhurst
Annie Lennox, that girl can sing, Madonna, Joss Stone and the fabulous Cold Play, just brilliant. From Philladelphia, the Black Eyed Peas, what energy! We just had a ball

    Matthew - London
Pete Doherty was the best - great dancer - cool

    L, West Sussex
Craig David in Paris was absolutely fantastic, adlib, rapping to the single sound of the most incredible Spanish guitar-playing. The most amazing talent. This had to be the best moment for me. Sting adapting his words to remind us about the G8, really forcing the issue with the people that are going to have a real influence

    Paul Brake, Midsomer Norton
So many to choose. Will Smith's finger clicking. The Cars' video. Annie Lennox's 'Why'. And performance wise, Snoop Dogg asking 'What's My Name?' - even non-hip-hop fans were bouncing. Bob's performance. But the memory that will live with me forever ,outside of the The Cars video, was when Dave Gilmore struck up his guitar for the solo on 'Conformtably Numb'. 24 years I've waited. A great end to a magnificent day. Make Poverty History.

    Vicky, Delft, The Netherlands
Among others...Will Smith clicking his fingers, Dido and Youssou N' Dour singing "7 Seconds", Annie Lenox and the appearence of Birhan Woldu whose strength and beauty gave us one more reason to beleive that what happened yesterday may indeed finally work...

    Mike, London
Pink Floyd playing Comfortably Numb! Truly amazing to see they could put on such a mesmerising performance after not playing together for so long. A true highlight!

    Antony Harris, Hornchurch
It has to be Bob singing I don't Like Mondays. The guy got enormous criticism from the media for this, but this is not a reflection of the feeling among the crowd when Bob took to the stage. A tremmendously moving and powerful moment. Well done Bob, you were brilliant!

    Richard Hoblyn South East
REM Man on the Moon...fantastic! Robbie Williams's entrance and the Floyd wow!

    reuben sneller, petworth, west sussex
Sicssor sisters coming on, everyone singing along and the sun finally comeing out at the same time! I'll never forget that. Tears started to come to my eyes during most of the videos, they bought u back down to earth and reminded you why we where all here!

    Kavita Band - Barnet
I take my hat off to Bob Geldolf. What an utterly inspiring and entertaining day. Robbie Williams is an awesome entertainer. Annie Lennox has a voice of gold. Bono sheer presence......

    sarah, lincoln
an emotional rollarcoaster of a day. We need to appreciate the quality of life we have... stereophonics, ashcroft/coldplay & pink floyd provided proper goosebump moments

    louise from Oxford
Brilliant. Unfortunately we had to leave before the end. Robbie was definately the crowd favourite. All were brilliant but Stereophonics, Keane, Annie Lennox and Robbie stood out in my opinion. Couple of very touching moments when the african girl came on stage and when Will Smith got the crowd clicking their fingers. All in all - brilliant day and lets hope something gets done!

    Charlotte, Bath
The best moment for me was watching the film introduced by Bob Geldolf showing the hardship of Africa, the whole crowd went completley silent with everyone in complete shock at the devestating images, then when the young African woman came out and hugged Sir Bob, a chill went down my spine and made me realise that by actually being there we can make a difference.

    Stog - Nottingham
So many highlights, U2, REM, The Who to name but three. As a Floyd fan of (too) many years wonderful and emotional to see them reconciled and playing such a stunning set. Also the emotional moment when the lovely young Ethiopian girl was introduced by Geldof - brought tears to my eyes.

    Frances, bonnie bonnie Scotland
When Annie Lennox was playing WHY and the whole crowd was silent as the film was played. I was crying at that point and lookin around I saw many others were the same. Thats what it was really about - helping those peopel that really need it

    Joe Williams Cambridge
When Will smith got everyone to click their fingers every 3 seconds to represent a child dieing. It was realy good all the countrys were linked together and you could realy feel the emotion.

    becky, london
150,000 singing angels with robbie williams. he was incredible. same with rem - to hear everybody hurts rocking around you was so so moving. i'll never forget those moments and was so so glad to be there and counted. listen up, G8!

    Gaz, Bolton
I thought the moment the doves were released as U2 sang One was quite an emotional moment as one of the Travis lads mentioned. Robbie had the crowd in his hand as usual and Keane were great. Peter Kay came across as being a bit of a chump expecting everyone to be able to sing Amarillo on demand. Best sound had to be Pink Floyd and very emotive as well to see them together performing. Lets hope Bob won't have to stay mad at the moneymen for much longer....

    Bettina, Italy
The opening with Sir Paul & U2 playing Sgt.Pepper's,I was so moved thinkin' about how nice it could have been if John Lennon would be still with us and join them on stage. A very touching moment indeed! Not to mention Pink Floyd's reunion, a magic moment, thanks Sir Geldof for having renewed a huge emotion, 20 years later !

    gilly bell, surrey.
A Beautiful Day. For me it had to be U2, so much emotion - tears flowing as soon as they set foot on the stage. Brilliant performance as always, with wonderful words from Bono.

    Floris van Raaijen, Amsterdam
Madonna was brilliant!! she looked so cool and Ray of Light is such an amazing song. Very strong performance.

    John, St. Helens
Velvet Revolver doing "fall to pieces" was my favourite moment of live 8, a superb uplifting anthem. Just listen to slash's guitar solo's! Also The Who were amazing, one of the best live bands ever!

    Mitch, Toronto, Canada
U2's opening with It's a Beautiful Day... don't let it get away...

    Paula Taylor - Belfast
The original Africa video, I was really sobbing at parts - we are so lucky and most of us are so ungrateful for what we have. Musically Pink Floyd was the best moment.

    Steve G
Annie Lennox without a shadow of doubt, amazing. The entire day was magnificent. This is only the beginning.

    Audrey douglas Isle of Man
My most memorable moment was when bob introduced the beautiful african girl she was absolutly stunning it brought tears to my eyes

    James, MIddlesbrough
Ms Dynamite's quote about 50,000 people dying every day, hard hitting, Bob bringing on the Etheopian girl, incredibly moving and Pink Floyds world class performance for a gobal meeting of minds.

    Ian from Newcastle
Pink Floyd's reunion was as breathtaking as it was surprising. Musically, they're on another planet but it was the body language between Roger Waters and David Gilmour which was the personal highlight for me. Now let's have another album and tour. Thanks for being the mediator Bob.

    Jenny Chittenden, London
Watching the film from Ethiopia 20 years ago with "Drive" playing. It moved me to tears the first time and again last night. Then Bob Geldof coming on stage with the child who nearly died who is now a beautiful young woman. We can make a difference.

    Phil, East Sussex
Definetly the African girl from the orginal Live Aid flim. Best performance, Robbie (if you were there), easily the best. The Who rocked the place, but Robbie, got the crowd going, and I don't normally like him. Sound quality in Hyde Park was rubbish, but hell it was free! Brillant day.

    Jim from Bolton
It was boss. Who could fail to be moved by the passion of Sir Bob. The message was clear, the world is listening, now its up to G8 to do something about. Super day with exceptional performances and speeches. Not sure about Elton and Pete though. Don't understand why Elton did that. Was it a case of 'man of the moment'.

    Rachel, Essex
Every act was brilliant, especially Madonna & Robbie, but there were 2 moments that stand out for me. Will Smith getting everyone at all the gigs clicking their fingers every 3 seconds and the African lady being brought on to the stage - they both were powerful messages showing what this was all about.

    Penny, Andover
The whole show was amazing, but for me to watch Pink Floyd performing brilliantly considering they hadn't played together for 20 odd years was unbelievable. I also loved Bob Geldof doing 'I Hate Mondays' was also fantastic. I must admit I hadn't really been moved by the plight of the African nation as much as I was yesterday and I hope that the 8 leaders take notice of such amazing numbers of people taking part and watching all over the world. It never ceases to amaze me that the politicians have to stay in the most incredible places for their meetings such as Gleneagles Hotel which is one of our most expensive hotels in the country, slumming it eh!

    Noel- Leeds
Can only agree with a lot of people..the moment when the girl from the original film came on stage..it just shows..this kind of thing really does work!I'm not ashamed to say..it bought tears to my eyes! All the bands were great, but being a Floyd fan-what can i say. Mind you, saw Keizer Chiefs in Philly...wow!

    Paul, Liverpool
I enjoyed the whole day immensely but Pink Floyd reunited after 24 years and playing so immaculately was something very special.

    Hannah, Surrey
Madonna starting Like A Prayer hand in hand with the amazing woman from the film who had grown up having been given 10 minutes to live in 1985. I cried an embarrassing amount.

    james barrie leeds
When Bono from U2 gave the speech before he began to play was amazing

    Art, Southampton
Snoop Doggy Dogg - he so easily could have been terrible (IMHO Miss Dynamite struggled but came good with Redemption Song) but he absolutely wowed the audience. He was superb. Snoop, Stereophonics, Youssou N'Dour (if only Dido had gone off stage and left him to it) and Pink Floyd were the best acts for me. Will Smith's speech was extremely poignant in contrast to Miss Dynamite who spouted some hackneyed nonsense (has she ever spent any significant time in the 3rd world I wonder?). All in all I sincerely hope Live 8 achieves it aims.

    Tommy (48), Hove, East Sussex
The Scissor Sisters were the 'act of the day' for me, although The Killers would have been in with a shout if they'd been allowed more than one song. The low points? Snoop, Razorlight and Madonna's foul and unnecessary language. Children in the crowd, children watching at home. Mind you, it was funny to hear Madge obviously realising her mistake - no dear, it wasn't cool to do it!!

    tina, Oregon,USA
Sitting down to my computer and watching the enormity of the global concerts, seeing the power of music to unite so many different people and hoping this power can keep flowing to the betterment of us all.

    Jim, Bedworth Warks
its now 3:10 am sunday morning and i have been watching from the first note played on saturday afternoon. the whole experience was awsome. I was at live aid and would have loved to have been in hyde park today.Highlights? Madonna, Sir paul, the flloyd all were excelelent.

    Adam B, London
I thought Razorlight were the best performers on the day. The stunning Ethopian women being brought out was probably the defining moment and it followed right after Razorlight and just before Madonna - probably the strongest part of the show.

Just back from the concert. Best & moving moments were Annie Lennox with Why watching the screens and then Bob Geldof showing the original scenes and then introducing the Ethiopian Girl, had tears in my eyes by then. A fab day and proud to have been there. Unfortunately missed the last two hours as it overran and had to get the tube back to the car - but the video is waiting! Well done Bob.

    Paul Tuohy, Dublin
seeing Phonics on stage is always amazing for me. got up there and proper rocked. moment of the day actually theres to many to pick just the one out, but when "king" bob, as he's know now came out and i said "i had to do this on this stage" and the whole crowd sang along, was unbelieveable.

    Jan Galloway, London
Madonna was definitely the best performer there. The way she got all of us to sing 'music makes the people come together' over and over again, it was an amazing moment. Coldplay, Razorlight, Annie Lennox and Sting were my other favourites. Great day and night!

How can you not be moved by the film clips we seen today as well as the music. The film clip behind Annie Lennox where the little girl twirled in her new dress I cried, it just showed the innocent of children. Then to see the cars film again and that little child struggle to stand up, I had a lump in my throat, I was 11 for the first live aid and remember it clearly from that but to see it again just brought it all back to me again. That whole film is so sad and shows us what we have to do and whats more looking at it now 20 years on from the original to think most of those children in that film died 20 years ago hits very much at the heart especially when you have children of your own and look at them. My 8 year old cried today when she saw that film when the little boy put his head in his hands, she turned to me and said that's not right, how could I argue. But to see such a beautiful healthy girl at the end showed us it can work. The music today was brillant, loved Velvet Revolver all i can say is WOW, but having the likes of Pink Floyd playing again as a banner in the crowd said "Pigs have Flown".

the who and robbie williams simply amazing.whole event superb.

    Graham, Devon
Without question, the dying girl from the video of 20 years ago coming on stage as a vivacious young woman.

    Matt, Leeds
Pink Floyd putting aside all their differences to reunite for an amazing cause.

    James Sorrie, Northampton
The Who - 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. Fantastic! It's even more mind blowing thirty something years on! Where do they get that energy?

    Blake, London
Madonna was amazing! She sounded great and she looked great too! Loved it when she and the young African girl talked and raised their arms. I loved her doing Like A Prayer it was amazing! And loved the choir there singing with her. Ray of Light was great too (plus the hot dancer boys she had was great eye candy!) So glad she did this and everyone else to raise money and awareness. Thank you Bob Geldof

    Sarah, Manchester
I've watched as much as I can today and my highlight was Velvet Revolver! They were great! I was moved when the film was shown on how bad the poverty in Africa is, me and my mum cried!!!!

    Laura, Devon
Keane for me was brilliant, but the whole event has been such a joy to watch on telly. I just wish i could have gone to see it live!x

    Billy MacIntyre, Dunfermline
I sat in tears watching the Cars video like I first did 20 years ago and remembered how the vision of that child at the end still haunted me. To then see her as a beautiful healthy adult was the most touching thing I have ever seen and shows that miracles are possible. Yes the music is great but that moment defined what this is really for.

    cristina biyo, Philippines
The images behind Annie Lennox when she played Why were incredibly moving.

    Carol ..........Torpoint....Cornwall
It is absolutely brilliant, have been glued to the tv ever since it started and Annie Lennox was supberb....just can't describe how wonderful it would have been to be there

    Jamie, Wakefield, UK

    Carlie, Belfast
I remember sobbing at the short film set to 'Drive' by The Cars at Live Aid, and true to form, it brought me to tears again. It needed to be shown to demonstrate the human suffering behind the headlines. And then when the beautiful woman who was a child in the film came on stage - wow! U2 were excellent! My only criticism - one song for The Killers? Come on!

    Anon
I saw the film with boy who struggled to get up and looked at my son and sobbed. I will be going out there, I have to do something.my son is only 5 months old but i look at him and know that thier future is in his hands

If im going to be honest i didnt really realise just how big Live 8 is... and if im brutally honest i didnt realise what bob and the gang were doing this for. I got home from work and put the box on and of course put live 8 on.. i was having a great time singing along to all the songs.. then razorlight came on and when they performed somewhere else i was on an extroadinary high.. and then good old sir bob came on and showed us the film of the poverty in africa.. i could feel myself welling up.. and sure enough i burst into tears.. i have never felt like that before in my life. It has opened my eyes and made me realise just whats going on around us and just how bad poverty is affecting our neighbours. Like Ms Dynamite said if it was happening here in the UK Blaid wouldnt be having it..we wouldnt he having it so come on people lets all pull together and make poverty history for christs sake!! x

    Nicola, Manchester
Bob Geldof introducing us to the stunningly beautiful young African woman who was the child in the film shown in 1985. Definitely THE pivotal moment of live8.

    Sarah, Leeds
The best moment so far, i would say was when the young ethiopian woman was on stage with Bob..so moving.

    Patrick (Washington, DC)
Been listening to your coverage online since U2 and Paul hit the stage--American tv coverage is crap so far but this broadcast makes me feel like I'm in the Park. My highlight so far is Madonna, it will later be Pink Floyd.

    suzanne rotterdam netherlands

    Graeme, Prestwick, Scotland.
The concert is amazing. When Annie Lennox was on performing 'Why?' the video in the background really made this travesty of human nature hit home. It moved me to send a message to Tony Blair - we need action, and we need it now.

    Lisa Connell, London.
Listening to the bands make a speech touches my heart, knowing that they care.

    Jo Thurston Brightlingsea Essex
My defining moment has to be when Sir Bob was on the stage and brought out the girl who survived the famine! Tears welled up! It was truly a magic moment! Lets hope that this works and the politicians listen to the world!

    jordan reading
im only 11 but i heard about the moment in 85 when bob held his hand up, but to see today was so emotianal.

    Leah Greengarten - London
My defining moment was sitting watching from my lounge at home, Dido and the African man sing '7 Seconds'. As they were half way through the song, the camera panned across to the audience and a banner which read '18 Million People Die Each Year in Africa of Curable Diseases', I burst into tears, realizing the severity of the problem and how, as one we can do something to make a change for good. God Bless and Thank-you Sir Geldoff for making this happen and raising global awareness.

    esther from the Netherlands
Bob again with I don't like mondays!!!!!!!!!!!It was then memorable and that was it now again, god I wish I was there!

Fantastic concert. Only Sir Bob is allowed to use the F word, however, Snoop.

    Jean - Chester
Keane - swamped by big names - no chance, absolutely superb movng performance.

    Penny Jones, Liverpool
I was so moved by the contribution from by both Brad Pitt and Annie Lennox. I have to say that I cried when I saw the film that was shown during Annie's first song. How can anyone not be moved. I can only offer my admiration to those acts who genuinely see this event as a way of trying to influence positively the terrible problems in Africa. I just hope that those people watching or listening in the U.K realise just how lucky we are. Those children could be our own.

    Jenn - Bedfordshire
REM and UB40 there are not many bands that sound the same live as on CD

    Emma Derby
Annie Lennox's interview with Jonathon Ross, was moving. Her comment about foot and mouth compared to the Aids situation was thought provoking and hopefuly people will sit up and listen

    will smith clicking his finges

    Joseph Cain, Sheffield
Miss Dynamite and others saying that if 50,000 people died every day here, we'd surely do something about it today. The realisation being that we can actually do something about it today by supporting live 8, buying fair trade goods, whatever it takes...

    Deb, London
It's now 4:30pm GMT & I've seen U2, Coldplay, Elton John & REM. Best moment for me so far was Youssou N'Dour, 7 Seconds, beautiful man, gorgeous voice - even Dido couldn't detract...

A stunning performance by Dido & friend with some of the most brilliant and heart-warming lyrics and vocals that had me in tears! The emotional response MUST only be matched by OUR leaders's response. Well done Sir Bob and everyone else involved in the world's most important people project ever!

    Annabel, Hertfordshire
Currently housebound after back surgery so am listening on the radio while watching the tennis with the sound off - but I turned over for Coldplay - what a fantastic set. I already know that my defining moment of the day is going to be Pink Floyd reforming - I've been a fan for 20 years and never thought I'd see this day come. The fact that it's for such a good cause makes it even more special. Well done everyone involved - I can't wait for later!
