"We're Scissors For Lefty and we're ****ing glad to be here" calls out Bryan Garza, a chuckling mop-topped frontman sporting a tight Bjork T-shirt and knee-length jeans. The crowd duly respond with an almighty roar for this San Franciscan four-piece, whose jaunty melodic indie soon get hips swaying and arms flailing.
As kookie as Flaming Lips with the attitude of The Dandy Warhols, this quartet disarm all with sarcastic lyrics delivered with loved-up smiles or Jagger-esque oohs.
Grandaddy-style cartoonish keyboards complete the saccharine sound that shrouds their anti-establishment leanings.
Despite Bryan picking up the wrong guitar during opener I Could Be Wrong, and nearly teetering off the edge of the stage, he gallantly jumps off towards a sea of outstretched hands, even nudging fists with a fan. Feel the love man!
"We'll play one last song if that's alright" smiles Bryan, a picture of boyish innocence. Pounding beats ensue as new single Ghetto Ways is outed, replete with whispery shrieks. If the innocence fools you, then you're not the only one.
