Broken Social Scene is at the centre of Toronto's burgeoning music scene, and has spawned many offshoots, including Metric and Stars, so, having already seen (and instantly fallen in love with) Metric earlier today, Broken Social Scene is a 'must see' band tonight.
Considering there are so many people on stage, the sound is pretty reedy. I get to the tent half way through an instrumental, and immediately I'm struck by the fact that BSS do have some beautiful hypnotic melodies. There's also a delightful messiness about it all, but they seem to lose their way after a while, and by now I am in the mood for something with a bit more 'oomph'. I have enjoyed what I've heard, but BSS's sound would suit me more if I was in a much more contemplative mood.
